NiMH Battery Limitations

  • The NiMH Battery is less durable than the NiCd Battery.
  • Cycling Ni-MH under heavy load and storage at high temperature reduces its service life.
  • NiMH Batteries suffers from high self-discharge, which is higher than NiCd Batteries. Approximately 1% per day.
  • Limited service life of 200-300 cycles if deep cycled repeatedly.
  • The NiMH Battery has a more limited discharge rate than the NiCd Battery.
  • The NiMH Battery requires more complex charge algorithm.
  • The NiMH Battery generates more heat during charge than the NiCd Battery.
  • Requires longer charge times than the NiCd Battery.
  • The NiMH battery cannot absorb overcharge.
  • The NiMH Battery requires regular full discharge to prevent crystalline formation.
