RBR’s Information & Interpretation

Every rechargeable battery is different and no two rechargeable batteries are identical ( even from the same manufacturer ).

When we talk about rechargeable battery characteristics, it can mean a great many things. At Rechargeable Battery Review, we are concerned with performance or energy stored and delivered. With that in mind, here are some things you should consider:

  1. Each rechargeable battery has an optimum charge rate.
  2. Each rechargeable battery has an optimum discharge rate.
  3. Each rechargeable battery may require a different number of initial conditioning cycles before reaching its optimum performance.
  4. Each rechargeable battery may have a different life cycle ( number of charge and discharge cycles ).
  5. A rechargeable battery’s life cycle will be affected by how the rechargeable battery is used.
  6. Each rechargeable battery will have unique behaviour including self discharge.

Each manufacturer has an unlimited supply of samples to use in testing and evaluating rechargeable battery performance.

Rechargeable Battery Review does not have this luxury neither does it have the same budget as these large corporations. We either acquire samples directly from the manufacturer or by acquiring them as you the consumer would.

This means that we test what we have in hand and we do expect that these samples represent the product line. Generally speaking, rechargeable batteries that have been tested and reviewed at Rechargeable Battery Review from a package perform relatively the same.

As previously mentioned, we verify the FLT results, so take a look at rechargeable battery review pages. Here are some cases or things to think about when you are looking at the information:

Excellent or really good Rechargeable Batteries from the same package usually:

  • All perform the same;
  • match the “stated or labeled Capacity”
  • have the Fixed Load and Constant Current tests resemble each other.

Under performing Rechargeable Batteries from the same package:

  • Show the same characteristics;
  • The rechargeable battery review does not match the “stated or labeled Capacity”;
  • have the Fixed Load and Constant Current tests resemble each other.

Different Rechargeable Batteries from the same manufacturer

  • Example: Powerex AA 2500 and Powerex AA 2700.
  • The different models have similar performance or show a trend.
  • The rechargeable battery review matches the “stated or labeled Capacity”.
  • Fixed Load and Pulsed Current tests resemble each other.

When considering some of the reviews posted at RBR, it is entirely possible that Rechargeable Battery Review did receive a bad batch. Rechargeable Battery Review is always open to retesting any product and the manufacturer can make arrangements to do so any time.

Rechargeable Battery Review is not responsible for what it has received or acquired just as the consumer would have on the open market. Rechargeable Battery Review cannot be expected to go shopping for new samples in the “hopes” of finding better samples. We would end up spending more time shopping and trying to return samples than testing.

When you look at the rechargeable battery review pages, please remember the following:

  1. Rechargeable Battery Review’s results are not based on an average of hundreds or thousands of samples;
  2. Rechargeable Battery Review’s results are NOT absolute for the entire product line;
  3. Rechargeable Battery Review uses a Fixed Load test .
  4. Accounting for all the variables, the Fixed Load test will have a tolerance of +/-1% up to +/-1.5%.
  5. In very few packages, we have had a bad rechargeable battery. The results reflect the remainder of the rechargeable batteries.
  6. When you look at the information provided in the rechargeable batter reviews, look around and notice the trends from each manufacturer.
  7. When you look at the information provided in the rechargeable batter reviews, look around and notice the trends between the different manufacturers.
  8. You can find great value in lower capacity rechargeable batteries.
  9. Rechargeable batteries tested in different devices, not just a capacity test, provides good examples of how these rechargeable batteries perform in real devices.
  10. Just because a rechargeable battery does not deliver > 95% of its labeled capacity does not mean that some rechargeable batteries will not deliver value ( price versus capacity or performance ).
