NiMH Battery FAQs and Information

NiMH batteries are now more widely available than NiCd batteries. They are not as effective as NiCd batteries at delivering high rates of discharge for short periods of time.

NiMH Battery Advantages

  • The NiMH Battery has higher energy density than the NiCd Battery, upwards of 40% higher capacity than the standard NiCd Battery.
  • The NiMH Battery has potential for higher capacities, but not without some negative side effects.
  • The NiMH Battery rechargeable batteries have a fairly flat discharge cycle, and then drops rapidly near the end of the discharge cycle.
  • Theoretically less prone to the memory effect than the NiCd Battery.
  • Transportation is not subject to regulatory control.
  • The NiMH Battery is more environmentally friendly than the NiCd Battery.
  • Contains mild toxins and recycling of the Nickel is used in making stainless steel.
  • Cool temperature and a partial charge slows aging.
