NiCd Rechargeable Battery FAQs and Information

Some say the NiCd Rechargeable Battery is obsolete due to its lower capacity and disposal requirements. The NiCd Battery technology still outperforms other technologies when it comes to high drain regular use applications.

Fast Charging a NiCd Rechargeable Battery

  • Properly monitored, a NiCd rechargeable battery can be charged at rates up to 1C.
  • Charge termination can be done using the minus delta V method.
  • The delta V occurs when the battery voltages drops -10 to -20 mV per cell.
  • Complex algorithms required for ultra-fast charging requires constant monitoring of the voltage and temperature.
  • This is called a smart charge, or a controlled fast charge.
