Alkaline vs. NiMH - 2008/02/20 01:44
Chris,
No you are not crazy.
Remember that current is based on resistance and voltage. Current = Voltage / Resistance
A flash accumulates charge, so it draws and stores energy for a flash. The higher the voltage, the faster the transfer of energy.
So initially, the Alkaline may appear to work better. And I say, Initially, and Appear.
But extremely soon, maybe after 5 shots or so, the NiMH will show more consistent power and faster response, because it does store more "ENERGY".
This is also based on a reasonably good NiMH product.
Also, A NiMH will actually start anywhere from 1.35 to 1.45 volts. It will quickly flatten to 1.2V

Message: Call me crazy: I believe my digital camera works better on the higher voltage provided by AA alkalines (1.62V) vs. the voltage provided by most AA rechargables (1.2V). WHY the difference in voltage? And, am I really going crazy?
