Electric cars and other future Car Technologies |

Cars have been an object of
interest ever since they came out on the streets. Cars and in general
all kinds of automobiles not only provides us a very comfortable means
of transportation but also proves to be something that we all love to
own, talk and even collect.
This article is not about how cars were invented and who hold first
patent and the first factory to product the first batch in production
but rather focus here is on future technologies, research and
development and to see where we are and what to expect in near future.
Even tough Gasoline engines are popular and is still the main
technology used in the automobile sector, but serious effort are
underway to shift from Gasoline powered engines to more environment
friendly alternative fuel Technology like Electric powered Vehicles,
bio-diesel cars, solar powered or hybrid of some kind.
There is a great history of electric cars which were first built around
late 1800s. The development of these battery powered cars required some
complex semi-conductor technology to be integrated.
Electric powered cars do not require as complex a drive train mechanism
of transmission they are accelerate evry fast and can go upto 0-60
miles per hour in as little as 4 seconds. They can also maintain a top
most speed of around 130 miles per hour.
These battery powered cars can have a range of upto 250-270 miles or
about 400 kilometers after a 3.5 hour of charge at one time. The fuel
efficiency in comparision to internal combustion engine is not really
fixed but several reports suggest it to be somewhat around 130 mpg.
Which is a great improvement.
Future developments in Fuel Technologies
As mentioned earlier not only battery powered cars are being worked on
but there is a plethora of new technologies which are being tried and
tested in Research and development department of big automobiles
manufactures like Honda, the toyotas etc.
But these research and development are not just limited to world car
manufacturers but there are several world know universities and
research organization involved in developing these future technologies.
Most of the current R&D is focussed on hybrid technology that uses
both electric as well as internal combustion. Some other research worth
mentioning are Fuel cells, HCCI or Homogeneous Charge Compression
Ignition and compressed air or even liquid nitrogen.
